The Business of Doing Business This is an especially tough time of year for me with regard to selling. I'm not a good hawker. I can't objectively describe my 'goods' without simply listing off the ingredients used, and maybe a comment about how the product made me feel in a moment of clear inspiration, but that doesn't always come. I was there when the art was conceived, and I was there when the art was born, so it's precious to me ~ and, yes, I do consider the vast majority of the products I create as art. I've invested a lot of time and energy and love into perfecting my art, and I continue to work on it. I've been making smells for nearly 20 years, spells for twice as long as that, and they are inevitably intertwined in the work I do. And I live off what I make. For some time now I've been struggling with keeping up with the Etsy shop, teaching online courses, writing tutorials, teaching in-person classes, and generally trying to figure out what you might like that I can make and sell. Sort of beating my head against the wall over it, actually. I haven't had a lot of opportunity to make something that I truly love, which explains why I can't keep stocked up on things in the shop -- no two soaps are ever the same, I throw some things together willy-nilly in the hopes you will like it when I'm not even 100% sure I like it! Well, no more of that. The products I contribute that I've felt a real connection with thus far are a few different bars of soap -- anything patchouli, the poppymint soap, which is a big favorite (of mine), kyphi incense of all stripes, hydrosols, and on the rare occasion, when I'm being true to myself, a perfume -- like Parma, or Atay. The Scented Djinn Etsy Apothecary is open and offering a few new items -- a lovely honied tobacco soap, and a clay and oat bran scrub. Among the new items are some oldies but goodies -- mostly parfum samples.

I see that you're all just banging down the door to get to the remaining goodies at The Scented Djinn Apothecary (I joke) -- however, I will be closing shop a bit earlier than predicted. The Scented Djinn is offering our newest soap, Sylvan Dreams, at The Scented Djinn Etsy Apothecary The base is a simple virgin olive, organic coconut, and coconut milk -- non-drying, super bubbly. The scent base is a forest lovers dream ~ rich in balsam fir, Virginia cedar and blood cedar enhanced by the oils of copaiba (antique), juniper berry, patchouli, cananga, black pepper and lemon. We also added just the barest hint of natural isolate raspberry ketone to boost the deep dark berry notes found in balsam fir. The result is a fresh, rustic, outdoorsy scent with 'sticking' power. Also included as an exfoliating agent are bits of crushed pine resin and Douglas fir pine needle tips. 3 - 3.25 oz bar ~ $4.50
